Dystopian stories have always had a place in the hearts of fantasy readers because there’s just something fascinating about seeing our world falling apart in the future, without actually having to deal with it falling apart. With the success of The Hunger Games tossing the whole genre into the spotlight, it’s no surprise that the upcoming television season would have a dystopian story to tell but it is sort of a shock that the show actually looks good.
In Revolution, the lights have gone out… permanently. If it ran on electricity, it’s history now. Not even batteries work in this brave new world that offers exciting visuals of various cityscapes losing the battle to Mother Nature.
I know trailers are made to make shows look good but I think this one will actually deliver, although there are a couple of parts that make me groan just a little bit. While it fits the premise, the young girl with the bow can’t help but make you think of Katniss and I don’t know if that’s good or bad for the show. It initially got an eye-roll from me but the concept fits so it’s not like the similarity is a blatant rip-off.
What totally blew my mind was seeing Billy Burke (Bella’s dad in the Twilight saga) being a total bad-ass with a sword. I would watch Revolution for no other reason than that but there’s also an intriguing conspiracy-style mystery going on. I won’t spoil it so you’ll have to watch the trailer but the last couple of minutes reveals that this series might have a few extra layers besides just surviving in a world without power.
What do you think? Will you give Revolution a try?
