Most Memorable Horror Villains

I’ve always loved horror stories so I thought I’d shine a spotlight on some of the most memorable villains I’ve come across. I know I’m leaving some out and will kick myself later for it. Each one of these gruesome scream-inducing baddies kept me on the edge of my seat and, at times, peering around the room like they might jump from the darkness. Yeah, I can be a total wimp, but I love the fear they bring to the table. Most of the freaks on this list haven’t given me a scream-queen scream in years but they’re still my favorites.

In no particular order, here are the hauntingly evil dudes that I can’t get enough of…

Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street — When Freddy and the Nightmare series was big, I thought he was the scariest thing out there. Looking back at the movies now, he’s comical at best. The acting isn’t so good either. LOL. He’s still nasty-looking, though!

The Reaper from Jeepers Creepers — The Reaper dude is sort of scary. I think he’s actually pretty darn cool-looking. There wasn’t a lot of up-close moments in the movie but – WOW – he totally freaked me out. I still don’t really know what the heck he’s supposed to be. Any ideas?

Pennywise the Clown from It — What can I say about Pennywise? I hate this bad-ass clown that came crawling from the fifth dimension of hell. Stephen King has a very sick mind to create something this traumatizing. This horrible clown has scared the daylights out of me since I was a kid, and that saying, “We all float down here,” just makes it that much worse. UGH! Aren’t clowns supposed to be fun?

Pinhead from Hellraiser — Pinhead is actually pretty cool to look at; the freaky peeps that follow him around are leaps and bounds more evil looking. But he is one of my favorites. Maybe it’s how unique he is and the story behind his creation. Way cool for an oldie.

Chucky from Child’s Play — Okay, this doll is totally freaky! If I had this doll, I think I’d have to bury it in cement to make sure it couldn’t cause me any harm. Nuff said!

Jigsaw from Saw — I don’t know about you guys, but the realistic quality of the Saw movies is enough to make me think twice before I do something wrong. The series got lamer as it went along but it rocked when the original Jigsaw was orchestrating the madness. Can you imagine being kidnapped and forced to play this atrocious game where the choices are either win or die? It’s just plain scary as hell!

Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th — Jason never gets old and the 2009 remake is proof of that. I always jump when he makes his…um…kill, because nobody else can come up with the super-creative ways he uses to stab, maim, castrate, decapitate, etc. It’s strange that even though I know its coming, he still catches me off guard. In the remake, he was faster moving and I had no idea what to expect! I just don’t want to see him with that darn mask off ever again…kind of makes you feel bad for him. Weird, huh?

Michael Myers from Halloween — Michael is a classic…but he never really gets old. I remember watching Halloween when I was a little girl and freaking out. Nowadays, he basically just gives me a good laugh. I couldn’t believe it when I found out he was wearing a Captain Kirk mask. Ug! I hate William Shatner.

Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre — He’s just super-nasty. I haven’t been able to look at a chainsaw the same way since watching this one, and forget about stopping at the quaint little meat market in the middle-of-nowhere town. It. Will. Never. Happen. Did I mention how freaking gross this guy is? Yuck!!

Kayako from The Grudge — I have to give mad props to the gal that plays this part. She definitely raises the bar when it comes to scaring the hell out of people.

To tell you the truth, Kayako scares the crap out of me every single time I watch The Grudge because I just cannot get used to the way she moves in that creepy-crawly way. I guess she tops the list, and for good reason. There’s something extra sinister about her. I think it has a lot to do with the eery sound she makes. Don’t tell anyone, but Marty makes that freaking sound sometimes (on purpose of course) to freak me out. Just thinking about it gives me chills!

Who is you favorite horror movie villain?
