Waiting on Wednesday: YA Book Threesome

Waiting On Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating. WOW is a great way to share the titles we’re excited to get our grubby little hands on.

This week I’m excited about three intriguing titles and I can’t wait to share them with you guys. Chris Colfer won me over with his debut, The Land of Stories: the Wishing Spell. It’s a phenomenal read and I I highly recommend it to all of you guys and gals that enjoy an adventure filled tale full of fairy tale characters. It’s a fast read too. So my first pick is what I can only imagine will be a bigger hit for Colfer. After seeing the movie trailer…yes you heard that right. Colfer’s Struck By Lightning is hitting the silver screen too and the trailer is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! Check it out below! My other picks are pretty self explanatory. Beth Revis for one is the goddess of science fiction. I’m jumping for joy and eager to see how she wraps up the Across the Universe trilogy! My Fairest Beauty just sounds like an exciting read and the cover is gorgeous. :)

Struck By Lightning by Chris Colfer
Release date — November 20, 2012

The Carson Phillips Journal follows the story of outcast high school senior Carson Phillips, who blackmails the most popular students in his school into contributing to his literary journal to bolster his college application; his goal in life is to get into Northwestern and eventually become the editor of The New Yorker.

At once laugh-out-loud funny, deliciously dark, and remarkably smart, Struck By Lightning unearths the dirt that lies just below the surface of high school. At a time when bullying torments so many young people today, this unique and important novel sheds light with humor and wit on an issue that deeply resonates with countless teens and readers.

The Fairest Beauty by Melanie Dickerson
Release date — December 24, 2012

A daring rescue. A difficult choice.

Sophie desperately wants to get away from her stepmother’s jealousy, and believes escape is her only chance to be happy. Then a young man named Gabe arrives from Hagenheim Castle, claiming she is betrothed to his older brother, and everything twists upside down. This could be Sophie’s one chance at freedom—but can she trust another person to keep her safe? Gabe defied his parents Rose and Wilhelm by going to find Sophie, and now he believes they had a right to worry: the girl’s inner and outer beauty has enchanted him.

Though romance is impossible—she is his brother’s future wife, and Gabe himself is betrothed to someone else—he promises himself he will see the mission through, no matter what. When the pair flee to the Cottage of the Seven, they find help—but also find their feelings for each other have grown. Now both must not only protect each other from the dangers around them—they must also protect their hearts.

Shades of Earth by Beth Revis
Release date — January 15, 2013

Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceship Godspeed behind. They’re ready to start life afresh–to build a home–on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience.

But this new Earth isn’t the paradise Amy had been hoping for. There are giant pterodactyl-like birds, purple flowers with mind-numbing toxins, and mysterious, unexplained ruins that hold more secrets than their stone walls first let on. The biggest secret of all? Godspeed’s former passengers aren’t alone on this planet. And if they’re going to stay, they’ll have to fight.

Amy and Elder must race to discover who–or what–else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. They will have to look inward to the very core of what makes them human on this, their most harrowing journey yet. Because if the colony collapses? Then everything they have sacrificed–friends, family, life on Earth–will have been for nothing.

FUELED BY LIES.
RULED BY CHAOS.
ALMOST HOME.

What are you guys and gals waiting on this Wednesday?
