Inevitable Reads: The Power of Books Unleashed

Inevitable Reads is a weekly meme we’ve thrown together to highlight titles that we simply, without-a-doubt, must get our hands on; the stories we’ve been waiting for ever since we heard the author was writing them.

I recently stumbled across this latest title and knew immediately that it had be added to the top of the TBR list because you just can’t go wrong with a great paranormal story that pays respect to other books in the paranormal and fantasy genres. Want to understand any language with the help of a Babel fish from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy? How about fulfilling the fantasy of becoming a vampire? Would you choose the kind from Dracula or go with something a little more sparkly from Twilight? What would you do if you could get your hands on the One Ring from The Lord of the Rings? Welcome to the world of the Libriomancer.

Libriomancer by Jim C Hines

Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines
Release Date: August 7, 2012
Magic ex Libris series #1

I couldn’t find an actual synopsis of Libriomancer on either Amazon or Goodreads, but the author spoke with the gang at io9 and shared a few details about his new series.

The Libriomancers are a group of magicians that have the ability to reach into the world of a book and pull anything out they desire. The book acts as a doorway so nobody will be reaching into Bram Stoker’s classic and plucking out Count Dracula because you can’t pull a guy through a door that’s only as big as a book. However, you can reach through that ‘door’ and let Dracula bite you… or you can have Edward Cullen bite you if you prefer your vamps with a little sparkle.

Books that contain really powerful objects, like Tolkien’s One Ring, are kept under tight security so that not just anybody can get their hands on these talismans, but the Libriomancers are attacked and some of those titles might not be under lock and key anymore.

I’ve always been fascinated by the power of books, and I think it’s exciting to see that power given an actual form in a new series so I am anxiously awaiting the moment when I can get my hands on this book.

Inevitable Reads: Dark Swan and Blood Singer

Inevitable Reads is a weekly meme we’ve thrown together to highlight titles that we simply, without-a-doubt, must get our hands on; the stories we’ve been waiting for ever since we heard the author was writing them.

There is no shortage of Inevitable Reads in my household and I had a hard time picking from the amazing books that are set to (hopefully) grace our bookshelves soon. This week, I flipped a coin and two of the hottest series made the list. And it just so happens that both of these gems are the fourth installment of their series. I couldn’t have picked a better set…LOL

First up is…

Shadow Heir by Richelle Mead
Dark Swan Series #4
Release date: February 2, 2012

Shaman-for-hire Eugenie Markham strives to keep the mortal realm safe from trespassing entities. But as the Thorn Land’s prophecy-haunted queen, there’s no refuge for her and her soon-to-be-born-children when a mysterious blight begins to devastate the Otherworld…

The spell-driven source of the blight isn’t the only challenge to Eugenie’s instincts. Fairy king Dorian is sacrificing everything to help, but Eugenie can’t trust the synergy drawing them back together. The uneasy truce between her and her shape shifter ex-lover Kiyo is endangered by secrets he can’t–or won’t–reveal. And as a formidable force rises to also threaten the human world, Eugenie must use her own cursed fate as a weapon–and risk the ultimate sacrifice.

Next up is…

The Isis Collar by Cat Adams
Blood Singer Series #4
Release date: March 13, 2012

Celia Graves was once an ordinary human, but those days are long gone. Now she strives to maintain her sanity and her soul while juggling both vampire abilities and the powers of a Siren.

Warned of a magical “bomb” at a local elementary school, Celia forces an evacuation. Oddly, the explosion seems to have no effect, puzzling both Celia and the FBI. Two weeks later, a strangely persistent bruise on Celia’s leg turns out to be the first sign of a magical zombie plague.

Finding the source of the plague isn’t Celia’s only concern. Her alcoholic mother has broken out of prison on the Sirens’ island; her little sister’s ghost has possessed a young girl; and one of Celia’s boyfriends, a powerful mage, has disappeared.

Dang! They both sound like action-packed paranormal delights! I’m definitely marking the release dates on my calendar. Are you?
