Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting On Wednesday: Time Travel, Dystopian Worlds and The Queen of the Dead

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

Hey guys! Hump day has finally arrived. I stumbled upon a few interesting reads this week that I simply must have in my reading pile. They won’t be released for a while but who says we can’t get a jump on things? LOL. The first two are new to me. If you guys have read anything by these authors please share in the comments.

Here’s what I’m waiting on this week.

Silence by Michelle Sagara West
Release date: May 1, 2012 (DAW)

This is the first in an exciting new series, The Queen of the Dead, and it sounds freaking awesome. I really like stories set around, or in, graveyards. The cover reminds me of Ruined by Paula Morris, though. Cover aside, Silence looks like a a great read. This is definitely one to add to your to-read list.

The Last Princess

by Galaxy Craze
Release date: May 8, 2012 (Poppy)

The summary quickly caught my attention with the first line…”Happily ever after is a thing of the past.” I love dystopian novels and The Last Princess seems to fit nicely in that category.

Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier
Release date: October 30, 2012 (Henry Holy & Co)

This is the second installment in the Edelstein Trilogie. I haven’t had a chance to read Ruby Red yet but now that I’ve read the summary for this one, I’ll move it up in my reading pile. Sounds like a great time-travel series. The cover is fantastic too. What do you guys think?

Waiting on Wednesday: Paranormal Overload Edition

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

We’re experience a paranormal overload this week. That’s not really a bad thing, is it? Probably not, and even if it is, who cares? LOL Here are the top four on my list this week. We’ve got faeries, bird kids, sexy Dark-Hunters, and, last but not least, vampires. I thought I was burnt out on vampires stories but I couldn’t resist it. You’ll see why.

Nevermore by James Patterson
Maximum Ride Series # 8
Release date: August 6, 2012

I haven’t read the latest books in this series but I’ve heard they’re really good. I’m kinda sad that Patterson is wrapping it up though. I guess we all get that way when a good series comes to an end. Isn’t the cover amazing? I think that it’s the best representation of the series as a whole.

Destined by Aprilynne Pike
Wings Series # 4
Release date: May 1, 2012

I adore this series but I’m also a die-hard fairy lover. LOL Pike’s world-building is phenomenal and her descriptions put you right in the middle of the colorful world the characters call home. It’s simply irresistible.

Time Untime by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Dark-Hunter Series # 22
Release date: August 2, 2012

Dark-Hunters….MMMMM. Kenyon sure knows how to fire a gal up with her Dark-Hunter men. I’m pretty sure I’m addicted to this series, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
Blood of Eden Series # 1
Release date: April 24, 2012

After falling head over heels for the Iron Fey series, adding this one is a no-brainer. Sounds freaking amazing. We all know that Kagawa is definitely going to give us an exciting world with equally exciting characters. Is it April yet?

Waiting On Wednesday: Mermaid Action and Magic

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

After devouring the first installment, Tempest Rising in 2011 it was easy to see this gem finding its way into my reading pile. June can’t get here fast enough. (Sighs) Tracy’s characters and skills at storytelling make the wait worth while. If you haven’t read Tempest Rising I suggest you devour it in all its glory before the next installment hit stores. You will NOT regret it.

Tempest Unleashed by Tracy Deebs
Tempest Series #2
Release date: 6/5/2012

Tempest Maguire is happy with her decision to embrace her mermaid nature and live among her mother’s clan within the ocean’s depths. Even though training to one day ascend the throne for the aging mermaid queen is rigorous, she finds refuge in the arms of Kona, the selkie who first opened her up to her mermaid side. But when word comes that one of her brothers has been gravely injured on land, Tempest immediately rushes to his side—which also brings her back to her old flame, Mark. And in her absence, a deadly battle begins raging at the hands of Tempest’s old nemesis, the sea witch Tiamat. As the dangerous war erupts, Tempest’s two loves—Kona and Mark, sea and land—will collide for the first time, both to protect her and to force her to choose.

Christine, the princess and heir to the real world of Chrysanthe, is kidnapped as a small child by a powerful magician and exiled in a Made World that is a version of our present reality. In exile, supervised by her strict “uncle”(actually a wizard in disguise), she undergoes bogus memory recovery therapy, through which she is forced to remember childhood rape and abuse by her parents and others. She is terribly stunted emotionally by this terrifying plot, but at seventeen discovers it is all a lie. Christine escapes with a rescuer, Sir Quentin, a knight from Chrysanthe, in a thrilling chase across realities.

Once home, the magical standoff caused by her exile is broken, and a war begins, in spite of the best efforts of her father, the king, and his wizard, Melogian. And that war, which takes up nearly the last third of the work, is a marvel of magical invention and terror, a battle between good and evil forces that resounds with echoes of the great battles of fantasy literature.
