You’re not ready for the Games until you’re wearing Hunger Games nail polish

Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket for The Hunger Games nail polish

I love to see the marketing machine when it really gets rolling because it’s amazing to see what people think of but I surprised myself by not thinking Hunger Games nail polish is as dumb as I originally thought it would be.

China Glaze recently rolled out the above promo featuring Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket for the new Capitol Colours line of nail polish (12 colors for each district), and I honestly can’t think of  better character to use for something like this. Even if you’ve never read Suzanne Collins’ novel, you can tell from the pic that Effie is all about fashion… although Panem fashion is just a bit on the wild side when compared to today’s standards.

I usually roll my eyes when a movie title gets slapped onto so many different items because of insane merchandising that doesn’t make any sense (Twilight anyone?) but fashion items are perfect for The Hunger Games because fashion actually plays a significant part in the story. After all, you want to look just right to get the viewers on your side, right?

The new nail polish will be available on March 1 and The Hunger Games opens on March 23 so the timing couldn’t be any better and I predict a sale-out within days, although I suppose it’s possible the nail polish won’t be as popular as I’m expecting it to be.

What will you be wearing to the opening ceremonies?

Santa Gets Tough with Rise of the Guardians

Rise of the Guardians by William JoyceWow! I recently reviewed For Love of Children and was blown away by the novelty of having Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy as urban fantasy heroes. Now I discover that this isn’t the first time this unlikely heroic trio has banded together to save the world… and this adventure is being adapted for the big screen.

I think the poster captures the spirit of the film nicely, and the idea of Santa with tats is hilarious. Check out the synopsis for the film and then find out more about the books. Have you heard of these before? They’re brand new to me, but I might have to give them a try.

Official Movie Synopsis:

When Pitch (Law), an evil spirit akin to the Boogeyman, lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children all over the world.

The movie features the voices of Hugh Jackman as the Easter Bunny, Jude Law as Pitch, Chris Pineas Jack Frost, Alec Baldwin as Santa Claus and Isla Fisher as the Tooth Fairy. The film opens November 21, 2012.

Rise of the Guardians is based on the Guardians of Childhood series written by William Joyce. From what I can tell on the author’s website, it’s a six-book series, with the first novel being Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King. There’s also a picture book series, with The Man in the Moon being the first book in that collection.

Will you be giving either the movie or the books a try? I know I will.

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games

Have you seen this yet? We finally get a good look at The Hunger Games and I have to admit I’m impressed. I think it does a great job of showing the opening chapters of Suzanne Collins’ novel, and there’s a definite feeling of excitement and tension even though the Games don’t actually start until the very end of the clip… or maybe the excitement is just from finally having a good look at the movie.

Harry Potter came to an end and the Twilight saga is winding down so all the Hollywood big boys are looking for the next big franchise that will make them tons of money. Do you think The Hunger Games will be it?
