From the award winning author of ‘No Hope for Gomez!’ comes a collection of impossible tales. Permeating the cracks between the past and the present is the realm of Unspent Time; time that was allotted but never spent. This is where we find the stories that could have been true.Such as the story of Kiala, whose caretaker disappears one day, leaving her as the sole Huntress to battle the giant octopi to feed her village. Or the revealing tale of Goki Feng Ho, the ancient Chinese art of decoding the meaning of car license plates. And the heartbreaking story of the man responsible for choosing the colors of the insides of your shoes. And let’s not forget the story behind Unspent Time itself, the metaphysical ramifications of which will leave the scientific community feeling mostly indifferent about it for decades to come…For the launch of the new novel I decided to discount it to $0.99 for today (PC and eBook), give away some exclusive content, and raffle off two Kindles. All entrants will get:
  • An exclusive spin-off novelette (not available for purchase anywhere!)
  • Making of Gomez: behind the scenes eBook
  • Signature for their paperback or kindle edition
  • Chance to win a Kindle Fire or a Kindle Touch

(Prizes can be traded for Amazon gift certificates if you already own them.)

Sound bites from Unspent Time:

“I’m looking into my past lives. I’m convinced some of them still owe me money.”

“I’m very polite by nature, even the voices in my head let each other finish their sentences.”

“I didn’t actually want to do it,” Kiala told the boy. “The universe just kind of conspired to force me to make a fool of myself. It does that quite a lot, actually.”

“Sadly, my socks are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike.”

Here’s what reviewers had to say:

“A veritable page turner of nonstop laughs!” — Reader Views
“An unputdownable read. a Coens Brothers’ film in book form.” — BookReview.com
“Extremely witty and clever writing.” — California Chronicle
“A Party for your Brain!” — Warren Baxter

The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda

The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda
ARC : 293 pages
Publisher: St Martin’s Griffin (May 8, 2012)
Series: The Hunt # 1

Don’t Sweat.  Don’t Laugh.  Don’t draw attention to yourself.  And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them.

Gene is different from everyone else around him.  He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood.  Gene is a human, and he knows the rules.  Keep the truth a secret.  It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood.

When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him.  He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity?

The main character of The Hunt is Gene, a young human boy, a Heper, that has been carefully hiding the fact that he’s human while living amongst the vampires. Crazy, right? I thought so too. Growing up, he learned from his father just what it takes to survive in this world and that, failing to hide that he is a Heper, leads to only one outcome… death.

Quickly, Gene’s life changes when he learns that he has been one of the few vampires that were selected for a heper hunt. He is taken to the institute where he is to be prepared for the hunt alongside other young vampires. While the other lottery winners are eager to take part, Gene knows that soon his heper scent will begin to attract attention to himself that he doesn’t need, and his life and safety will be thrown out of balance. Will he fall victim as all hepers do?

Fukuda kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire story. I couldn’t help but cheer for Gene as the hunt neared and his heper identity became almost impossible to hide.  The Hunt is a tantalizing addition to the YA dystopian genre that fans of Matched, The Hunger Games, and Delirium will surely enjoy. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

Teaser Tuesday: Devastation

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser.

The week our teaser is from Devastation by Gloria Skurzynski

As the vapor cleansing continued, lifting off his sweat, pulling it up into the remover pipe, Corgan pictured Sharla in his mind. The golden light had created shadows that sculpted her legs–they’d looked so lean and clean and smooth, from her calves to the thighs…Was that part of her image real?

What tease are you dishing out?
